Natural cures for sore lips.

With the UK still firmly in the grip of one of the wettest and coldest winters in memory there are a number of things that have really started to bother me, the first few months seemed to fly by without many negative effects on my body, but over the last few weeks I have noticed my lips becoming extremely sore and tender. Although there are no end of lip treatments available, many of these include non vegetation ingredients and in some cases even nasty toxins. In this article I look at natural options to keep your lips soft and healthy all yea round.

Why do our lips get sore?
There are a number of factors that must be taken into account when dealing with dry cracks lips, the first is cold weather. Cold weather can play havoc on our exposed skin and with our lips taking the brunt of the punishment. The skin on our lips is a lot thinner than other exposed areas of our face meaning they are often the first to show singes of over exposure to the cold. In addition to temperature and wind our saliva also damages the skin of our lips. Our saliva is full of digestive enzymes that help of break down the food we eat, excess licking of the lips can cause these enzymes to damage the skin creating that all to familiar feeling of cracked sore lips.

Natural Remedies

Coconut oil: Coconut oil the one of the premier moisturizers when it comes to soft shiny lips. The minerals that are found in coconut oil not only help to hydrate and rejuvenate your lips but can be used to moisturize our whole body.

How to use: To use Coconut oil, simply apply a small bit to your finger (making sure you have washed your hands of course) next; simply use your finger to apply the oil to your lips. Its worth noting that coconut oil tastes pretty darn good, and the last thing you want to do if you have dry lips is give yourself more reasons to lick them. If you’re finding this a bit hard to resist you could try bees wax or other scented oils.

Aloe Vera: Another great product to use when looking to protect your lips from the savageness of the winter months is Aloe Vera this amazing plant has been used around the world for thousands of years. Using Aloe Vera it is a good idea to mix it with additional oil before applying to the lips as it does have some astringent properties.

Vitamin E gel: Although this may sound a little unorthodox the best way I have found to use vitamin E is though buying a pack of the liquid pill supplements. Simply break open one of the capsules and apply the liquid directly to your lips. For best results, do this just before bed and leave over night.

Jojoba Oil: Jojoba is an oil extract from the seed of the jojoba tree. The compound of this oil is very similar to the compound excreted through human skin, making this an ideal choice when looking to smooth over chapped sore lips.
