The health benefits and uses of oregano

 

Oregano (Origanum Lamiaceae) has a rich history of both medicinal and culinary use dating back thousands of years. Ancient Greeks held oregano in great esteem for its ability to rid the body of poisons and unwanted toxins. The Romans would use a reef of oregano to crown married couples and a symbol of honor and trust. An old wives take dictates that if you cover your chest with oregano oil before bed you will dream of your future husband or wife.

  • Oregano can help us fight off cold viruses  The powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties of oregano oil make it a great choice for anyone suffering from a cold. Simply add around 5 drops of pure oregano oil to a glass of water and drink it down. This has been known to take out even the toughest infections within just a couple of days. Not suitable for pregnant women.

  • Oregano is known to help ease nasal congestion – A substance known as Carvacrol as well as a wide array of flavanoids help to ease congestion and stop respiratory infections.

  • Treatment for people suffering from flu – One of the most talked about uses of oregano oil is its usefulness as reducing symptoms of flu as well as greatly improving recovery times.
