Oil Pulling - What is oil pulling and how does it work?

Oil pulling is simply the act of using a high quality vegetable oil to draw harmful toxins from your mouth and gums. There are a number of different oils that can be used for oil pulling but perhaps the most commonly used is coconut oil. At room temperature coconut oil is a solid meaning it must be heated up in the mouth before you can start the process. Simply add a teaspoon sized scoop of pure coldpress coconut oil to your mouth and swill the oil for 15 - 20 minutes. Once completed, simply rinse your mouth out and brush your teeth as normal.

Oil pulling is actually an ancient practice that many people used to use and still do to help detoxify and rejuvenate their bodies. By using this technique you thoroughly cleanse and clean  the inside of your mouth. This happens because the toxins, bacteria and parasites bind to the oil, that way extracting it from the inside of your mouth you are able to dispose of it when you get rid of the oil from your mouth.

Oil pulling, very simple. You're taking coconut oil and your swishing it around your mouth 'like that' here is why this is effective;
We all know that our mouths are full of bacteria. One if the biggest bad guys in that bacteria family is called streptococcus.

So to oil pull all you need to do is take around 1 tablespoon of the oil of your choice, put it in your mouth and swish it around. You can use a variety of different oils, but I really like using sesame seed and coconut oil as I find they taste the best.

So what you're going to do is take a spoonful of the oil and you're going to swish it in your mouth from anywhere from 5 to twenty minutes, if you're just starting out you can start with five minutes and then work up to twenty minutes by the end of the week.

Take a shower for twenty minutes or you could even dance, do some yoga or some exercise. After the twenty minutes are up you can just spit the oil out. Don't swallow it as it will contain a lot of toxins. I tend to wash my mouth with warm salt water after using the oil but that's optional.

The amazing health benefits of oil pulling

(NaturalNews) More and more research is revealing that the health of your mouth is extremely critical to the health of your whole body. A dysbiotic oral cavity increases our risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and dementia. Oil pulling is an easy and inexpensive way to improve the balance of microorganisms in the mouth and improve our health.

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves swishing a pure oil around in the mouth to draw toxins from the body. This practice has immediate and tangible effects on conditions such as halitosis, gingivitis and dental plaque. Doing this regularly has been shown to improve the luster of the hair, clear the skin, whiten teeth, eliminate parasites, reduce joint pain and improve overall body odor.

The importance of good oral hygiene

The balance of microorganisms plays an enormous role in the health of the overall body. Numerous studies, including a very large report done at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, have shown a connection between periodontal disease and increased risk of stroke and cognitive decline.

One of the major oral bacteria is streptococcus mutans, which when left unchecked will multiply in the mouth and secrete toxins into the body's bloodstream. These toxins increase the inflammatory associated cytokine Interleukin-2 (IL-2) which is a strong contributor for the development of chronic disease. Elevated levels of IL-2 are particularly associated with endothelial (inner lining of the blood vessel) dysfunction which is correlated with heart disease, stroke and dementia.

Oil pulling goes beyond what brushing and flossing provide

Brushing and flossing are obviously important for oral hygiene but oil pulling has some unique benefits. The oil pulling has been shown to bind, trap and eliminate more microorganisms and get into deep pockets within the teeth and into some regions around root canals.

Root canals are a constant breeding ground for bacteria as they are essentially dead tissue that bacteria consistently feed upon. You cannot brush or floss enough to get the infections out of the root canal. But 10 minutes of oil pulling 1-2 times a day can be extremely effective at minimizing infectious bacteria in the root canal and the overall oral cavity.

How to practice oil pulling

Use a high quality oil such as organic coconut oil, organic olive oil or organic sesame oil.

Upon waking in the morning, swish the oil in your mouth for 10 minutes (you could go longer, from 15-20 minutes). Avoid gargling the oil but instead use slow pulling motions and be sure to get the oil to all reaches of the mouth. Most people find that the oil feels thinner after the 10 minute mark. Never swallow any of the oil as it is full of toxins and microbes.

After finishing the oil swishing, spit the oil into the toilet. Put a cap full of hydrogen peroxide or a teaspoon of Himalayan salt into some clean water and wash the solution around your mouth to eliminate any of the toxic debris still in your mouth. Go ahead and brush your teeth really well to help eliminate any other toxins that would still be in your mouth.

Most people notice the health improvements within two weeks of beginning the oil pulling process. The typical benefits most experience include whiter teeth, better breath, better body odor, less joint pain and improved energy. The long-term benefits are invaluable as this may be one of the best strategies for reducing chronic disease risk. This process is simple, easy and inexpensive.
